What are dentures made of?

dentures high point | tooth replacementDentures are a dental prosthetic that restores missing teeth. They fit snugly over the gum line and can replace one or multiple missing teeth.

Dentures can restore your biting capabilities, improve your speech, keep you looking beautiful, and bring back your self-confidence. Plus, they prevent facial sagging and protect your oral health – two precious properties.

At Deep River Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, our knowledgable dental team is here to help restore your beautiful smile.

Types of Dentures in High Point

While there are many types of dentures, including implant-supported dentures, the two main styles they fall under are partial and full dentures.

Partial dentures restore a few missing teeth that are surrounded by healthy existing teeth. They require the use of nearby teeth to anchor to, and many.

Full dentures replace all missing teeth on the upper or lower arch or both.

The gum base is either made from metal or acrylic shaded to match the color of your gums. The teeth are made from plastic or porcelain. In some instances, a chrome-cobalt alloy or stainless steel reinforcement helps make the denture more durable.

Denture Material

Modern dentures can be composed of different materials, including:

  • Porcelain
  • Acrylic resin (or plastic)
  • Hybrid composite of resin
  • Metal alloy for partial metal dentures
  • Nylon

Each material has its own benefits and disadvantages. Dr. Cassidy Bray can go over each type of denture and help determine which material fits your lifestyle and budget.
