Dental Crowns in High Point

dental crowns high pointDamaged and broken teeth can cause pain, create difficulties when eating your favorite foods, impede your speech, and affect your appearance. If these teeth are visible when you smile, you may even find yourself avoiding smiles and laughter.

At High Point dentist Dr. Cassidy Bray’s office, we can restore your teeth – and your laughter – with attractive customized dental crowns or dental bridge procedure. Porcelain crowns, sometimes known as “caps,” are designed from aesthetic materials such as porcelain and carefully crafted by a trusted dental lab to look completely lifelike. Once Dr. Bray completes the crown and bridge bonding process, nobody will ever know that you have had dental work done. All they will see is a beautiful, complete smile.

What Are Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns on teeth is a specially designed cover made of porcelain (or other material) that is placed over the top of your natural tooth to repair, support, or protect the tooth. Crowns give us the option of preserving your own tooth instead of being forced to extract it and then replace it, saving you time, discomfort, and money.

Crowns created using older technology were often easily identifiable since the metal was an immediate giveaway. More recently, the metal was covered with a ceramic for a more natural appearance, but the crowns still didn’t blend in well with natural teeth, and the metal beneath the layer of ceramic often showed through, creating a distinctive gray line right at the gumline.

Modern crowns are made from solid porcelain. Not only can the porcelain be shaded to perfectly match your other teeth, it even reflects the light the same way that your own enamel does, allowing the crown to blend into your smile flawlessly.

Do I Need a Dental Crown Procedure in High Point, NC?

We can use crowns to fix a range of problems. Some of the most common reasons for the tooth crown procedure from Deep River Family & Cosmetic Dentistry are:

  • To fix a broken tooth
  • To repair damage caused by significant decay
  • To support a tooth weakened by root canal therapy
  • To conceal a discolored tooth that is resistant to other whitening methods
  • Affixed to a dental implant to replace a missing tooth

How Are Crowns For Teeth Placed?

If you and Dr. Bray determine that a crown is the right solution for you, the first step will be to prep your tooth for the crown. Because a crown slips right over the top of your natural tooth, we need to shape the tooth to create room for the crown so that it doesn’t cause pressure to your other teeth and gives you the most natural appearance. Dr. Bray will make sure that you are numb and completely comfortable before beginning the crowns for teeth procedure.

Once your tooth has been prepped and the dental crown procedure can begin, we’ll take impressions and images to send to the lab that will be creating your crown. Dr. Bray will then place temporary crowns for teeth protecting the prepared tooth and reduce sensitivity.

In about two weeks, your crown will be back from the lab, and you can return to our office to have the permanent crown bonded into place. We’ll check the fit, and when both you and Dr. Bray are happy with the look and feel of the crown, you’ll be free to continue on with the rest of your day!
